What do you Design: Photo Jewelry and Jewelry for Women and Children

1.)How did you get into designing jewelry? After the birth of our first daughter Kinzley Faith, I worked outside the home for a few months. I had found a charm shaped like a little rock that had her middle name etched on it, to keep her close in the hours we were apart. After I had our second daughter Kennacie Grace I looked and looked for the matching charm that would say her middle name also. I never did find one but instead I found the world of soldered jewelry.
I had started to look around for the best deal on buying a soldered pendant necklace when I turned on the tv one day. For some reason the channel was on a how to craft show and they were making soldered pendants. I tivo-ed it and re-watched over and over and over until I figured out how to make my own.

2.)What is your favorite type of design? Oh man.. This is a tough one. As much as the kid in me loves to design new fun jewelry for kids, I'd have to say the photo pendants are my favorite. First off I love to be able to see my customers beautiful kids and secondly I know how treasured these are for people. I only wish I could be there when they get to see them for the first time.
I also really love to make the soldier's dog tag necklaces for the wife's and children who have a loved one who is currently serving for our country. I just imagine these little kids sitting in school missing their Dad, who they haven't seen for so long, grab the necklace that has his picture and being able to feel close to him.

Oh and of course the remembrance necklaces. I hadn't realized how many orders I would get for these and every time I make one I can't help but mourn the loss along with my customer. And to know my design may help them cope just a little better is all the reason I need to continue on making these.
As you can see I really enjoy what I do and am so BLESSED to be able to create these pieces for everyone.

3.)Why Photo Jewelry? I LOVE photographs. I am constantly snapping pictures of my girls and had a stack of pictures in my wallet to show them off to anyone who even acted interested.. :) What better way to show off my girls than in a necklace. Plus it lightens the load in my wallet ;)

4.)Do you wear your own designs? Of course! Someday I can't decide which to wear :)Wearing my jewelry is my best form of advertisement. Heck I even make my mom, sister and both of my girls wear them daily too..

5.)How did you come up with your name? I came up with my business name from the Faith Hill song “Fireflies”. I love the line “I was taught to dream”. My dream is to be a stay at home mom to my children and creating jewelry in our home has enabled me to achieve that dream. But even more importantly I want my girls to reach for the stars and never be afraid to DREAM!!!

1.)What is your favorite part of designing?

Finishing the design!!! I have so many unfinished projects, its ridiculous!!! There is nothing like see your design come to life and actually worn!!

2.)When you were a kid, what did you want to do "When I grow up"?

Oddly enough, I always wanted to be a fashion designer!! I would search for hours when I was in High School for a design school. But I didn't pursue that like I should have!!

3.)What do you get inspiration from?

My daughter mostly. I just imagine her wearing certain things, and how cute someone else's little princess will be in them. I love outrageous fabrics and designs, so stay tuned!!

4.)How long have you been designing?

I started designing hair bows about 2 years ago. I made a few for my daughter and some local girls loved them. So I started selling locally and then on eBay. Once I was introduced to the boutique world, my love for all things custom was born!!!

5.)Where do you see your designs going in the future?

Way over the top!! I hope anyway. I love this business and hope to be in it a long time. I'd love to get in to boys designs more, and possibly some teen/tween designs too.

What do you design: Children’s clothes and accessories

1.) Do you design for what you like, or what you think your customers will like?
I would say both. I like to create what customers like with my own touch. My designs are according to ages also, if I create an outfit for a 1 or 2 year old girl, it is going to be girly, cute, comfortable, and for older ages I like colors, contrasts, a little bit more sophisticated and for boys I like comfort and colors.

2.) What did you do before you started selling on eBay?
A lot of things, first I was a bilingual secretary, then a full time mom, I went into clay, jewelry and bows business with a friend at this time of my life, then I started to paint, and it became my passion, and I started to paint murals in houses, then my husband started his own export/import business and I helped him, and I am still helping him but part time only.

3.) Do you have a Signature item?
Not really. I love creating different things in different styles that is why I didn’t make my signature item yet.

4.) What was the first boutique item you ever sold on ebay, and how much did it sell for?
I remember it was a dog sweater. A friend of mine loves crocheting and we started to make sweaters for our dogs, it was very chilly at that time, and my daughter kept telling us to sell those on Ebay, well, that is how I started selling on Ebay. The first sweater sold for $15.00.

5.) What do you like to do when you’re not designing?
Sleep! I like to sleep. I love working, and I don’t get to sleep enough hours in a day, so that is what I like when I am not designing. By the way, I barely get this chance.

What do you sell: Boutique Hair Accessories and I do take orders for custom hand painted clothing.

1.)What is your favorite thing about designing?
My favorite thing about designing is knowing that someones little girl is going to be running around the playground wearing a unique creation that hasn't been mass produced.

2.)Where did you come up with your name?
My daughter's name is Michaela and most of my family calls her Mickey. When she was a teeny, tiny baby, I used to called her "My lil' Mickerdoodle" and the name just stayed with me and seemed appropriate for a children's boutique.

3.)Why did you decide to design accessories?
I decided to design hair accessories because I wanted matching bows or clips for my little girl's boutique outfits and off the rack clothing. Shopping around locally, there weren't many options, unless you just wanted just a plain one-color hair bow.

4.)Whats your favorite thing to make?
My favorite thing to make are my ribbon art clips. I love the idea that you can make something unique out of ribbon, thread, a needle and glue. There are times when I am out running errands and an idea pops into my head for my next clippie art project and I can't wait to get home to try to make it out of ribbon!

5.) Why did you join SassE?
My main reason for joining SassE was to collaborate with other designers to help create a complete outfit from head to toe. I have worked with other designers before in guest launches, and with others I met in other groups, but wanted to be a part of a close-knit group of moms whom I would work with on a continuous basis. Now that I am a member, I also love the camaraderie of the group and the OTS conversations that tend to come up daily! :D

What do you design: I design girls and boys boutique clothing. I specialize in buttons.

1.) What inspired you to use buttons for your collections?
I honestly was laying in bed one night trying to fall asleep and it came to me. I started thinking how cool it would be to make designs on shirts with buttons. I immediately got out of bed and started sketching my ideas on paper. My first t-shirt was a snowman. I've always loved the vintage, scrapbook style as well. Buttons allow me to incorporate this into my designs.

2.) Do you have a favorite outfit you have made?
My favorite outfit would be my Hello Kitty Button Jeans Set. The jeans alone have over 130 buttons on them. My Hello Kitty tee has been my biggest seller so far.

3.) What do you do when your not designing?
I spend time with my family. I have 4 amazing children and a very supportive husband.

4.) When did you start designing?
I started designing a little over a year ago.

5.) How has your style changed over time?
I have started making whole sets instead of just button shirts. I love making a twirly skirt or pants to match a button tee.

What do you design: I specialize in custom children's jewelry

What inspired you to want to start SassE? I had a few designer friends who were in different groups and we all wanted to be in one together. So, last January we started our own - not really intending to leave the ones we were in. However, it worked out that we did and from there SassE has evolved into what it is today.

What are the best and worst things about being a group leader? Well, the best part is that nobody can kick me out! Haha! The worst part is trying to steer the group in a direction that will help us all to be more successful without seeming mean or bossy.

What would you call your style? My style is usually pretty classic. Sweet, soft and little girlish. But every so often I like to get really creative and mix things up a bit.

Do you design for what you like, or what you think your customers will like? I do a lot of both. I make lots of stuff for Lindee that is what I like. But I also love the challenge of making something from someone else's imagination too - rather it is something that I would put on Lindee or not.

How has your design style changed since you started? I think my style has pretty much stayed the same. I have learned lots of new things. And I have gotten better at what I do. But overall I am still me.

What was the first item you ever sold, and how much did you sell it for? My first experience with selling on Ebay was back in 1999 when I had some really nice Home Interior stuff that I no longer wanted. It was too good to give away. So, since I had bought a couple things on Ebay I decided to give it a shot. I got out our little $50 digital camera and took the best pictures that I could. Then I followed the "Sell" instructions on Ebay and listed some things. I made $300 the first week and I've been hooked ever since!

Super Simple Key Lime Pie

1 lime (plastic one w/ juice)
1 tub cool whip
graham cracker pie crust

Mix the lime juice and condensed milk together till real smooth then fold in cool whip- put into crust.. freeze about 1-2 hr and ENJOY!

Nice and tart!

You can also make any flavor- omit the lime and add any flavor of instant dry pudding mix... (cookies-n-cream) (cheesecake) any flavor...Yummy!

Some personal things about our Shannon...

She's a Stay at Home Mom to 4 amazing children, 3 boys and 1 girl, ages 8, 4, 3, and 1. She loves having a big family and she says they keep her very busy! She lives with her husband of 5 yrs and her kids in Wisconsin. Her kids are her inspiration for most of her designs. Her favorite design of all is her Hello Kitty Tee. It is adorable!

Girls' Fashion Trend: The Asian Inspired Look for Back to School

Chicken Enchiladas

2 cups cooked, diced, boneless skinless chicken (or more if you like it meatier)
8-10 flour tortillas
2-4 cups grated cheeseSauce
1 can Cream of Mushroom soup
1 can Cream of Chicken soup4 green onions, chopped
1 can (4oz) diced green chilies, drained
1 (12oz) container sour cream
1 small can chopped black olives

Mix together soups, onion, chilies, sour cream, olives. Set aside ½ of the mixture. To one ½ add the chicken and ½ of the cheese. Spread a little bit of the mixture without the chicken on the bottom of a 9x13 pan to keep the tortillas from sticking. Put a good size spoonful of the chicken mixture on the edge of a tortilla and then roll it up and place it in the pan. I usually do 8 tortillas because that is how many usually come in a package. Pack them in tight. When you are done with the tortillas spread the other ½ of the sauce on top and cover with the rest of the cheese. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Tip: Sometimes I like to cook the chicken and mix up the sauce earlier in the day and put it in the fridge. Then it only takes a few minutes in the evening to put it together to bake. If you do that you will probably need to bake it a little longer so that it is warm all the way through.

These bows are all the buzz right now! So I was wondering what her inspiration was to come up with such darling little clippies. Her name is Julie and she is the owner of Bailey's Bows. eBay ID-baileys*bows*boutique. She LOVES making bows and has been so for over 3 years. This is what she told me about her inspiration in the design of these bows...
I was sitting around one day saying to myself "What can I do or make to set myself apart as a hairbow maker". We currently had a Battle of the Bows contest within my bow group and the theme was Going to the Movies. I came up with some popcorn bucket bows overflowing with popcorn that were too cute! Anyway they became the talk of the bow community because they were so original and unique. I made the ebay Pulse and that alone was inspiration for me to see what other creative things I could come up with. So I went down to my craft room, put on my thinking cap and wa-la the Diva Dolls were born!
They are entirely made out of ribbon and I knew I had seen nothing like it on the hair bow market. I showed my idea to a couple of friends and soon there after orders for them were pouring in!! They were a HUGE hit! Before long I was the talk of the bow community again because they were so original and creative. I am now motivated than ever to sell my Diva Dolls and I even have more ideas in the works that will be coming to an ebay auction near you VERY soon! Home Made Ice Cream

With the 4thcoming in a couple of days, we thought it would be nice to add some delicious and refreshing home made ice cream recipes. Yum! Use the first basic Vanilla Ice Cream and add your favorite flavor, fruit or cookie to it!

Vanilla Ice Cream

4 eggs

4 Cups heavy whipping cream (1 quart)

2 1/2 cups sugar

2T Vanilla

6 Cups whole milk

1/2t Salt

Beat eggs until light and fluffy. Gradually add sugar. Then add the other ingredients.If you want you can mix in crushed Oreo's after it is frozen. If you put them in before you freeze it then your ice cream turns out more chocolate than vanilla.

Sherry's Peach Ice Cream

1 quart heavy whipping cream

2 Cups Sugar

1t Vanilla

4-6 Cups of pureed Sweetened Peaches (if you use fresh unsweetened peaches be sure to add more sugar.

Fill the freezer to the fill line with Whole Milk

Yummy Ice Cream

2 Cups Sugar

2 Cups Apricot Nectar or pureed sweetened Apricots

1 Small can crushed pineapple

1 Small bottle Marshino Cherris chopped up.

1 Pint Heavy Whipping Cream (2 cups)

1t Vanilla

Finish filling freezer to fill line with Whole Milk.

Quick 'N Easy Casserole

Tater Tot Casserole

1 pound browned and seasoned hamburger

1 can cream of chicken soup

1 can cream of mushroom soup

1 Tablespoon Worchestershire Sauce

1 can of green bean or corn

Mix together in a casserole dish. Put a bag of tater tots on top and bake at 350 until the tater tots are hot. You can also melt cheese on top if you want to.

Let's Talk about Colors for this Back to School Season
Rich grassy greens will be in style for the boy's and girl's. You'll be seeing them in the sweaters, T-shirts and of course the tights. This color will look great paired up against a charcoal color or the rich cocoa color which will add that Euro flare. As for our blues this coming season, you can't go wrong with the cool tones in teal, aqua and sky blue. For a nice rich effect, pair these blues with a deep rose or go with a dark khaki and the cocoa. Sweet combo's!
Purple, purple, what can I say! Lilac, orchid-toned pinks and plums will be the purple passion of the season! The hot cocoa, so rich and deep, will look awesome with some cream and to go a bit more daring with it, try some charcoal or mustard. I know orange won't be left out this back to school season as we will see this color add some ZEST to the dark neutrals.
Oh, the colors of the season! I think we're going to have some pretty good looking kids this season with these great colors!

Sonia has been buying boutique clothing and accessories on ebay for 2 years. She is a full time working mom with two beautiful children, a son David who is 14 and a daughter Valarie who is 2. She discovered the wonderful world of boutique clothing and Ebay after her daughter Valarie was born. She loves to buy boutique clothing and accessories. She has been married to her middle school sweetheart for 15 years. The meet when they were 12 and have been together every since, she says it was truly love at first sight. Sonia says she has been truly blessed with a hard working husband who loves and supports her LOVE for shopping.

I ask Sonia to tell me about her all time favorite boutique item and this is what she had to say:
“My all time favorite purchase was a Boutique Tinkerbell Dress I bought for my daughter in a satin fabric with a tulle skirt. I bought it from ebay user BBCB and we received so many compliments with it. She used it for her first Birthday...”

Everyone looks for just a little something different when looking for a boutique item so I ask Sonia what she looks for when looking to purchase an item for Valarie. This is what she had to say:
“I look for cute, unique items. I love to buy bows, headbands, korkers, custom dress and outfits. I am always checking to see if I see something that catches my eyes. I have recently started buying children’s jewelry for my daughter something I just discovered and I am so hooked on right now. “

This outfit was actually designed by me Deanna, ebay id Kenzies*designs. Tonya and I participated in a buyers/designers launch. The set was designed by both Tonya and I. We picked the Hibiscus flower and then went from there. Through Tonya's envisions for the set I created this OOAK set for her sweet little angel Sophia. Fourth of July Craft

CRAFT MATERIALS:
Plastic coffee can lids
Marker
Scissors
String

Time needed: Under 1 Hour

1. To make one, use a nail to poke a hole in the center of a plastic coffee can lid.

2. With a marker, draw a spiral that starts 3/8 inch from the hole and gradually extends to the rim, then cut along the line with scissors.

3. Knot an end of a piece of string, thread the other end up through the hole in the center, and the twirler is ready to hang up and spin.

Tips: To spin, grasp each one at the bottom, twirl it around and around until the string is wound tight, let go and enjoy the show.

What’s hot for Back To School!

I know Sumer just started and we are already talking about Back to School. Believe it or not it will be here before we know it. So why not start thinking about is going to be hot this school year.
Apparently the word in Children’s fashion this fall is EASE and EFFORTLESS Pairing. Tee’s can be worn with dressy skirts and even worn inside out. That is the word from fashion guru Tina Barry. Tie die is back!! I never thought I would say that but it is true. Any type of Tee is going to be popular this fall. From tie die, to animal print the tee can be paired with anything. Don’t worry about matching clothes or mood. Anything we have been taught is going to be thrown out this season.

The SassE Basics by Deanna - kenzies*designs

So, you may ask how did SassE come about, what is SassE? SassE is a design group with many talented ladies who all have the same vision of creating beautiful quality boutique items. SassE was started when a few friends decided they had enough of being in groups that did not only fit their style, but had so many rules that it made designing not fun anymore. Thus SassE was created. The SassE girls all have formed a unique relationship that I don’t know you can find in any other group. We are like one big family; just call us the SassE girls!! When something happens to one of our members we are all there to support her and do what ever we can to help. Shortly after our group started we had an online baby shower for Erin. It was so much fun! I have never been in a group that cared so much for its members like SassE does. Everyone is also very supportive of each other. We love to see each other succeed in whatever venture we might be seeking. I don’t think you can find any other group that is as close knit as the SassE girls!! It is nice to know when you are having problems or just need someone to talk to that you can turn to the SassE girls for help.

I asked our fearless leaders where they see SassE going in the next months and years. They all had the same consensus. They want SassE to go the top of the Boutique World and make SassE a well known classy design group. That is exactly where SassE is heading!! To the Top!! We have such talented members and as Erin mentioned to me, it is nice to see our girls venture into new design areas. “That is what keeps SassE fresh!!” You will always see fresh ideas blooming within each and every one of our designs.

Now that I have introduced you to a little bit of background about SassE, I want to introduce you to our wonderful leaders who started it all!! I ask all the girl’s to tell me Why they like designing and little bit about themselves.

I became inspired to design jewelry shortly after I had Lindee. I had a hard time finding jewelry with the combinations of colors that I wanted. So, I started making my own. I had sold stuff on eBay for years so it was just natural that I would sell my jewelry too. It has been a lot of fun and has become quite an addiction for me. It's a great creative outlet that I enjoy immensely. When I discovered the world of eBay groups it just made it all the more fun. I have many wonderful customers and have made lots of great friends!

I am new to making clothing but my bows have been around for a few years now. I love funky!!!!! I want to see something that I can’t find anywhere else! I love seeing little girls wearing bows! As far as clothing- I don’t think it will ever get old or boring. I want to be able to make clothing for my little girl that I would want to wear.

I have been designing clothing as long as I can remember – I got my start with towels and bed sheets and my very unfortunate little brother was my first customer. I now design for my little princess, Morgan and my new little prince, Cooper. My incredibly supportive husband tolerates loose threads all over the carpet and even the occasional pin – he’s WONDERFUL!
Every now and then, I’m lucky enough to have my favorite partner (my mom) help me with designs and construction. Everything I know, I learned from her! I love prints in every color and have learned the value of working with quality fabric. I create for my kids, but love the challenge of custom orders! If you can dream it, I’d love to create it for you!
